Whys is your support vital to our cause?
Domestic violence is the single leading cause of injury to women in our country.
The statistics paint a shocking picture:
• One in four women will experience violence during her lifetime
• Three women each day will die at the hands of their husbands or boyfriends
• Between 3.3 and 10 million children witness domestic violence in their homes each year
• One in five female high school students are physically or sexually abused by a boyfriend
The mission of The Spring of Tampa Bay, Inc. is to prevent domestic violence, protect victims, and promote change in lives, families and communities, all with an emphasis on prevention and early intervention.
The Spring emergency shelter provides a safe haven for families utilizing an empowerment-based approach. The Spring Outreach Program works with survivors who are living in a safe environment, and our Transitional Housing Program helps families stabilize while going to school and working. Our Youth Program provides primary prevention messages and intervention groups to help young people break the cycle of domestic violence.
All of our programs give victims safe refuge, access to needed resources like education and job placement, family support and encouragement to move toward a self-determined life.
The Spring Donation Center and Thrift Stores provide goods for survivor families who come to the shelter, including clothing and toiletries. When they leave, furniture, bedding and kitchen items help furnish their new homes. The Simply Spring Thrift Stores are open to the public for shopping. Proceeds from sales help support victims and their families.
